Choose where a little room would go

Name what you would welcome if an optional demand took a little less attention.

Week 2B · 4 of 8 · 2 min read

Making a demand smaller does not have to create space for another task. You might welcome a quiet pause, time to look out the window, or an uninterrupted part of something you already enjoy.

You can name that preference before making any adjustment. It gives the possible change a purpose that belongs to you. There is no requirement to fill every bit of available room or make your day more productive.

One question

What would I welcome in a little room left by an optional demand?

One small practice

Think of an optional extra you could make smaller, keeping essential responsibilities in place. Write what you would like any room left over to hold. A pause can be the whole answer.

Complete: "The room I would welcome is for ____." You can stop after naming the preference. No task needs to change today, and no productive use of the room is required.

Use paper or a private note. Nothing needs to be submitted.

Questions people ask

Can I want room for doing nothing in particular?

Yes. The practice explicitly leaves room for a pause without another task. You can write that preference in ordinary words. It does not need to become an activity, an improvement plan, or a reason you could defend to someone else.

What if I know what I want but cannot change the demand?

You can keep the preference separate from what is possible now. Naming it does not require a schedule change or remove real limits. The note can be complete even when the demand remains the same today.
